Good news to share concerning Mrs. Atule! As I type this, she is being ordered a new wheelchair. As soon as those photos come in, I will post them with the greatest pleasure. Mama Afrika would like to say a very sincere thank you to a very special visitor to MamaAfrika.com who took it upon herself to raise the money for the wheelchair. Her name is Andrea and she has proved to be a blessing to Mama and Mrs Atule. THANK YOU Andrea!

More good news is that thanks to donations from people just like you who have purchased here at Mama Afrika, Mrs. Atule's house has had temporary repairs made to it. Here are the photos and more information...

For those people who tell you that one person can't make a difference in the fight against poverty...

Send them here to Mama Afrika to show them how each sale of even the smallest item is improving the lives of African women and children. A few months ago, helping this incredible, hard-working woman was just a dream.

We have already accomplished our first two goals:

  1. Making immediate temporary repairs to Mrs Atule's house so she could live in decent conditions until the rain season stopped and permanent improvements can be made.
  2. Getting Mrs Atule a wheelchair so that she can again have social interaction at events like weddings and funerals. She'll also be able to visit friends and be more comfortable while weaving and performing other daily tasks.
  3. Now all that is left is to raise the money for the permanent repairs which can only be done once the rains cease. Since the damage was so severe; Mama has learned that it will cost less to rebuild than to continue doing annual patchwork repairs. With some hard work, we are hoping to raise the $1,000 needed to build Mrs Atule's new home. If you are unable to donate, at least include our project in your prayers.

Here is Mrs. Atule in her wheelchair!

Thank you to everyone for their donations, prayers and good wishes. Our mother, Mrs. Atule has asked Mama to tell you all thank you sincerely.

One day at a time, one person at a time we will improve the living conditions of African women...
