The Masindi region of Uganda brings us the beautiful basketry you see being woven here. There are both men and women weavers; but over all, the handicrafts sector is comprised of between 90 and 95 percent women.

Here are more photos taken during quality control training... Enjoy!

The men and women of Masindi:

Training sessions like these are what ensure that your basket is of the very highest quality. Here the weavers learn new techniques, patterns and get to spend a day away from their daily routines.

In the warmth of the Ugandan sun, beautiful baskets are born. The hands and imagination of these women are the only things which restrict the possibilities.

With careful attention to detail, these ladies turn blades of grass into pieces of art...

Let's not forget the men who weave. There is a small percentage of men who are members of the cooperative as weavers. Mama Afrika would like to recognize them too for their talent and hard work.
