The baskets at this
stand are handmade original pieces which
are woven by a cooperative of women in Uganda. These women are doing their best to
care for themselves and their families thanks to their talent and
beautiful wares. But they don't just use the money they earn from the baskets, they also use the materials to make them!
All the products
you will find at this stand are dyed with natural dyes which the women make from local plants. 95 percent of these plants are also used for healing purposes for everything from upset stomach to serious illnesses. The use of natural dyes like these is not just safe for the environment, but assures that these plants continue to flourish and be available for health purposes.
Who would have thought that buying a basket could also help women care for the medical needs of their families through the use of traditional plants which have been used for hundreds of years locally?
