Welcome to Mama Afrika's Open Market

Our open market features items from every corner of Africa, currently eleven countries and the list is growing every year. We have items organized by type of product, not country of origin. You can click through to any of our stands by using the icons above. Our basketry stand has basketry in many forms including picnic and shopping baskets as well as fans... variety is our specialty. It is Mama Afrika's aim to bring you a variety of pieces which highlight the diversity of her continent.

Additionally, you'll find that all of our products are fair trade; but many are also organic. We show our respect of the environment through recycling and sustainable development projects. From the paper we use to print our brochures and letters to the way that cooperatives use recycled materials to ship us our goods... Mama is doing her part to reduce waste. This isn't because its trendy, or even because it pleases our customers. We do it because we always have. We do it because it is the right thing to do and its the best way of ensuring a future for Africa's children and our own.

If you are new to Mama Afrika, you might also want to know that we believe in giving back. You can visit the HELP section to learn more about what we do. But we do help in two ways: we sell items through our Open Market stands using fair trade practices. Additionally, we donate 10 percent of our revenue to small local organizations which work to better the lives of African families. Often times, those projects are run and managed by the cooperatives that we trade with. From eye glasses to school books and supplies, we have been able to meet some of our cooperatives' needs in special ways over the years.
